Back from an extended holiday, I had a slew of new pages to look forward to, and they did not disappoint. I noticed that I like the strong symmetrical panel layouts combined with the use of “weak” panel borders (dialog boxes and some art elements going across panels)… structure & strength + dynamism = FOOTBALL!
The art style continues to set off the action poses really well, and the detail of Steadmar, Hokor and Greedok is luscious.
Yes, I said LUSCIOUS.
On a very small technical note, the “Today’s Page” link in the RSS feed does not resolve correctly… “Today’s” resolves to “Today's”, and I get a 404 error. Probably not your department, but I bet you can notify the powers that be easier than I can.
As for the RSS — Unfortunately, right now, it’s ALL my department. We’ve had some other emails mentioning problems with the RSS. It’s on my list to check. Soon, I promise.
I’ll be honest with you — I’m not a big user of RSS (Read that as “Never”.) I know some people love it. And I really don’t mind putting it on the sites — but I don’t have a lot of basis for knowing what “works” and what doesn’t (not talking about the “today’s” error here — I can see that now that you mentioned it — thanks for calling it to my attention.)
I mean what “works” for you RSS users that make it Good or Bad. Scott and I have discussed this at length and we’ll probably do some experiments.
For instance, would it be better to include the Pages on the feed? Or maybe just a teaser like “Stedmar finds out just how serious Greedok is about aquiring Quenton!”?
Another problem is that when I update I have to change the last week’s page and that makes it update in RSS. Does this cause certain RSS readers to get the page again? What about when I change an ad or correct a mistake in mid-week?
My RSS “reader” is Firefox, which allows you to add RSS feeds as folders of “live” bookmarks. So what is in or out of the feed doesn’t mean much to me. However I can see the appeal of putting the comic right in the feed - but I would suggest it is a slightly lower resolution image that offers a link to the site. It offers something to those that don’t want to fire up a web page every time, but nudges traffic to the site as well.
Hey mark and the team sorry for the delayed post (may late 2007 macbook pro logic board bust nvidias problem but its taken a week to fix all good now) anyway i like the change of font type and its much better to read for me anyway the art work also looks nice and sharp too i am looking forwards as always to the new pages as they come off ….. and a side note APP version of The Rookie at the app store is awesome and everyone needs to get it if the have and iphone or ipod touch :p

Stuff like that.
Look for some questions and answers soon. I hope.
Thanks again,
