How to Use the Addictive Comics Blog Comment System

From the very beginning, Scott and Mark knew that they wanted the readers to be able to comment on anything and everything on Addictive Comics.  We didn't just want to post an email address or host a far-off forum -- we wanted a comment area on EVERY PAGE.

Unfortunately putting the reader comment area below the artword proved impractical in practice (making the pages awkwardly long, hard to program and slowing the flow of reading.)

So they came up with the idea of just leaving the creator comments on the comic pages and creating Companion Blogs for each comic and using them for the reader comments.

This will hopefully turn out to be a wonderfully effect idea as we go along.

See, Blogs are MADE for commenting.  They were designed from the very first to allow easy back and forth dialogue between creators and readers.  It's there purpose on the web.

And Blogs are INCREDIBLY EASY to use.

Once you know how.

HOW TO USE THE BLOGS TO COMMENT ON ADDICTIVE COMICS

Blogs really are incredibly easy to use and you will get the hang of it on no time -- but you first must understand the simple way they are setup and the simple process of getting to them from the comic pages.

One The first thing to remember is that the blogs (and the comments) are separate from the comic pages.  This is very simple and shouldn't worry you a bit.  You just need to remember that you must click one of the links that says "Blog" to get to the Blogs.

These links are scattered all over every page -- Above the artwork on the grey Navigation Bar, to the Left of the artwork in the Site Menu and even Below the artwork where we include the Blog Button and Some Special Links.

Two

Once you click on one of these links you will head straight to the Front Page or "Home Page" of the blog (there is one special case -- and it is explained below.)  The front page has the "Posts" on it -- running in reverse order, last to first, so the newest is always on top.

"Posts" are really just the comments written by the comics' creators and the Addictive Comics guys.  Frequently they will feature our thoughts on the pages, additional information about the comic and even some artwork by the artists.

Naturally, we hope these will be interesting to you and that you will read and enjoy them.

What you won't see in the Front Page is the reader comments.  There is a way to put the reader comments on this front page -- but after you get a few dozen (or few hundred, we hope) the page gets awkwardly long and complecated.

So instead we set it up the more tradition "Blog-way" (probably 99% of blogs on the web use this setup) where the Comments can be made and read on the Individual Post Pages.

Diagram - Individual Post Pages

ThreeI explain below how to get to the Individual Post Pages.  Once you get to there you will notice it looks almost EXACTLY like the front page.  The only difference is that there is only ONE Post per page and at the bottom are the reader comments and below those a few boxes for you to leave a comment.

The comment boxes are pretty self-explanatory so I won't bore you here.

But --

HOW DO YOU GET TO THE INDIVIDUAL POST PAGES TO LEAVE COMMENTS?

Luckily, like everything else this is Super Easy.

The first way is --

Head to the blog through on of the main links (above, below or to the left of the artwork) and read all the new posts.  When you see a post you want to comment on, just ---

1. Click on the title of the post --

Diagram Comments Title

...or...

2. Look for the word COMMENTS at the bottom of the post and click on that.

Diagram Comments Click

Either one will take you to the individual post and the comment area (see #3 above.)

The second way to get to the individual post pages is...

THAT SPECIAL CASE I MENTIONED ABOVE

On each new page of comic (or on the last page of a group of new pages), in the comic page comment area (where we have short notes about the page) you will see a button to take you to the Front Page of the Blog (explained above.)  Example --

The Rookie Blog Button

...and...

You will also see a link to take you STRAIGHT to the Individual Post of that particular page.  Example --

If you would like to comment on this page -- CLICK HERE

We provide this Special Case for those of you who visit often and want to save time by heading straight to the individual post page to leave a new comment.  If all you want to do is comment on that particular page -- this is your easy, direct way of getting there.

ONE LAST NOTE

It really is SUPER EASY -- even if it doesn's seem like it at first.  Once you get the hang of it, it will seem totally natural.

Play around.  Click on everything.  If you wonder what something is or what it does, click it.

You won't can't break anything.

Only we can do that. ;)
