Welcome to Addictive Comics!

Scott Sigler from Addictive Comics FROM THE EVIL CLOSET OF SCOTT SIGLER:

There’s not much to look at yet, other than this frickin’ amazing ROOKIE page by Mark Hester included below. This is just to get your pulse up, a little tease before we delve into the hotness of full-on weekly webcomics.

Addictive Comics is the partnership of author and podcaster Scott Sigler (the egotistical bastard writing this), artist and art director Mark Hester, and programmer Paul Rogalinski. Our goals are simple — spend five years giving the world amazing free webcomics based on podcast fiction, build a huge online following, then sell out to a big comic company and become the Pimps of the French Riviera.

This blog is ground zero for all the news leading up to the Launch of Addictive Comics, and once we go live, it will continue to document the trials, tribulations and goat sacrifices necessary to establish an online business.

We plan to turn podcast fiction stories into webcomics, releasing a new page from each story every week until the book is complete.  It’s all free. We string you out — hence the term “addictive.” Normally, pushers like us say “first hit is free,” but unfortunately for our business model, all the damn hits are free. We think it will be an amazing experience for you to be able to listen to a free podiobook and either read the comic at the same time or go back and read it after you’re done. No one else in the world is doing this. That’s why we get to wear the big-boy pants.

FLAGSHIP TITLES
We’re kicking it off live and loud with THE ROOKIE, a scifi/football/gangster story that is also available as a free audiobook at Podiobooks.com.  I wrote it. It rocks.

Here’s that page of PNFL action from THE ROOKIE I promised ya.  Click on the picture below if you want to see a bigger, badder, in-your-face look at the good stuff.

The Rookie PNFL Action by Scott Sigler and Mark Hester. CLICK on the picture for a Larger View.

Our other feature title is the amazing BLACK JACK JUSTICE, a 50s hard-boiled detective series from Decoder Ring Theater that also available as a free Live-Action Podcast Drama from their Website.

We’ll be telling you more about both of them right here on the Addictive Comics Blog in the next few days.

FUTURE TITLES
I won’t say much about this now, but I will assure you that we are in talks with some of the biggest names in podcast fiction.  And soon, we’ll be adding a little graphic novel called ANCESTOR to the mix …

SEE YA, WOULDN’T WANT TO BE YA
That’s it for now. See the little “subscribe” link in the upper right-hand corner of this page? Subscribe already. Watch the fun as we build Addictive Comics from the blog post you’re reading now into a worldwide phenomenon responsible for creating A-list artists, best-selling graphic novels and movies based on the stories you see here.

Start tapping a vein, sucker, because once you see the junk we’re cooking up, you’ll be hooked for life.

Scott

A QUICK NOTE FROM MARK:

Hi,

Most of you don’t know me, but I have been working in comics off-and-on for the past 20 years.  Let me tell you something…

I have never been this excited by a project.

Scott’s comments above are completely over-the-top as usual (Hey, that’s why we love him!) but everything he says it 100% true

We are out to create a whole new, exciting experience in webcomics.

The stories and writers we are lining up for you are gonna blow your socks off.  Believe me, “you ain’t never seen nothing like it before!”

BUT — WE NEED YOUR HELP

I know it’s a tired old cliche, but we REALLY DO want to hear from you.

This is a whole new experience for us, also — with all the problems and challenges of any new venture.  We are gonna take it very slowly at first but there will still probably be plenty of stops & starts and a few mistakes along the way.

You really can Help Us.

After all, chances are you arrived at this page because you heard Scott mention it on the Nocturnal Podcast.  That means that you are already a Sigler Junkie and you are a fan of that in-your-face excitement that only Scott can produce.   You know what this guy can do!

Wouldn’t you love to see that same excitement in a webcomic?

I’m not gonna give you a long list of what we are looking for — because we want to hear ANY ideas you have.  What would you like to see?

You know Scott, nothing — and I mean NOTHING! – is too far out there.

Mark

Blackjack Justice as a webcomic? Cool!

The Red Panda as a webcomic (please, pretty please - I’m in good with Greg so let me know if you need me to talk with him)? Cool Cool!

Scot Sigler properties as a webcomic? Cool Cool Cool!

Dare I ask it?

What about NOCTURNAL? There have to be more stories about Brian, Pookie, and the Nocturnals. I mean come on, Brian just became the next Savior of the night.

Nocturnal the webcomic (I’m not even going to say please, just get it done man - ok - please) Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott Sigler @ 9:30 am

Blaquesaber: Can’t promise anything about Red Panda, but if Black Jack Justice is successful, we’ll be trying to pair an artist up with the Panda stories. There might be something in the works for NOCTURNAL, but I can’t talk about it.

Mark Hester @ 11:33 am

Blaquesaber — Thank you for leaving our first comment and the kind words.

I can add just a tiny bit to what Scott said about the Red Panda. Thank you for you offer but we are discussing it with Gregg (who is as nice as he is talented.) He is very excited about BJJ and would love to see RP also.

When we have some news you can read it first right here. Sign up for the RSS.

This so damn exciting - I am moist.

Adam Teece @ 1:18 pm

I can’t wait to start reading your comics. I used to be a big time webcomic junkie, but have weened myself away from them. Damn you pushers.

scottsiglerjunkie @ 4:40 pm

mrben @ 9:38 am

It’s weird - I was listening to Nocturnal ep #35 on the train on the way home last night, and hearing all the promo stuff for Contagious, and thinking to myself “Dammit, Sigler, why can’t we have some more stuff from the Rookie universe? When’s The Starter coming out?” And then, as if by magic, the future Rookie comic is placed like that “first one’s free” magic pill on the tip of our tongues.

Damn you Sigler, and your addictiveness.

Tim Crawford @ 3:47 pm

This is going to be cool. So many thanks to Scott and Gregg Taylor from Decoder Ring Theatre.

Jesper Schultz @ 4:14 pm

A great idea -

I have this vague idea of how a Kii warrior, John Tweedy and all the rest might look - it’ll be great to see actual Sigler-approved pics of them all.

On a somber afterthought though - this will also be the biggest danger to the popularity of the comics with the OJs. Many, if not all, junkies have formed specific images of how the different characters must look. It is important that the graphic representations are ultra-loyal to the story.

But - judging from the Rookie shot, it’ll be some good stuff you’ll be dishing out :-)

The wait inbetween additions to the comics will be a bitch, but worth the shakes.

Mark Hester @ 5:10 pm

w_nightshade, Adam, scottsiglerjunkie, mrben, Tim and Jesper — Thank you all for the kind comments and the excitement. Scott has some pretty intense fans!

Jesper, you bring up a good point. I have that problem with movies made from books I have read — they’re never as good. However, I have been working very closely with Scott to try and get the look just right.

In the next few days we will be posting some concept drawings of the Quyth and others. You can let us know if we nailed it.

Also we’ll have some further info on our planned schedule.

Thanks again,

Mark

Dark Knight @ 9:07 pm

I think this is a great idea. There are many roal-playeres that may have storys or ideas to contribute. Pushing this through their community will be like a wild fire. Good luck, cant wait to see more.

T Martin @ 4:26 pm

Just wanted to say first, I love this idea! I’m a huge Decoder Ring fan (even if they don’t know it yet :) ) as well as a Sigler fan - and I’m really looking forward to both BJJ and the Rookie.

A note about the website: there’s a sign up box on the main page for the newletter… it’s being cut off on the right side by the edge of the frame. Otherwise everything looks great and I’m waiting with bated breath to see what magic is to come. :)

Mark Hester @ 7:19 am

T.

Thank you.

We are HUGE fans of all things Decoder too. That’s why my very first email after Scott and I conceived of Addictive Comics was to Gregg Taylor. I couldn’t have been be more pleased when he jumped at the idea.

Yes, the signup box is cutting off a bit. I’ll bet that’s what’s causing it to move around a bit on other browsers. I’ll look into it.

Thank you.

Mark
